Bummer Xmas Mixes

For those of you who can't stand the saccharine sweetness of the Holidays, here's some alternative listening...
FESTIVUS '04
"A lump of coal for your Festivus sock"

1). Xmas Is For Mugs - Graham Parker
2). Back Door Santa - Clarence Carter
3). What Do The Lonely Do At Xmas? - The Emotion
4). 12 Days of Waffle House - The Waffle House Singers
5). Who Took The Merry Out of Xmas? - The Staples Singers
6). Merry Xmas From The Family - Robert Earl Keen

This compilation was a gift from the lovely and talented A.J. Michel of Syndicate Product, using Festivus as the focus of this tight little package of Grinchiness... it's become one of my favorites.

Thought I'd add a bonus - part II of a Millennium Christmas Tape mix I did a few years ago, Side B focusing on "Bummer Xmas" songs:

MILLENNIUM CHRISTMAS MIX
Bummer edition

01) Christmas Spirit?! - The Wailers
02) Don't Believe In Christmas - The Sonics
03) Santa Came Home Drunk - Clyde Lasley & the Cadillac Baby Specials

05) Christmas Eve Can Kill You - The Everly Brothers
06) Please Come Home For Christmas - Southside Johnny Lyon
07) Christmas - The Posies
08) Christmas In Vermont - Ed's Redeeming Qualities

Being an 'archival' recording, some of the sound quality isn't pristine, especially on some of the outtake selections... I did do my best, however.
For more information about the film, and some RA samples of other deleted songs, you might check out this Dr. T. fan site.

He's in the drum.

I'll try to get a couple of Christmas things up, then I'll take a short break until after the new year.

John Barry

In the mid- to late- 60's, Columbia Records released several John Barry compilation albums, two of them being JOHN BARRY CONDUCTS HIS GREATEST MOVIE HITS and READY WHEN YOU ARE, J.B.

In the late 80's, when labels began raiding their back catalogs to issue on CD, one of the many John Barry compilations was THE FILM MUSIC OF JOHN BARRY, which was comprised of the bulk of both albums and a third compilation LP.

Since the CD is still available & easy to find, I collected the 9 tracks from both albums that were left off of the CD

01) Afternoon
02) Dutchman
03) The Girl With The Sun In Her Hair
04) Midnight Cowboy
05) Romance for Guitar and Orchestra - Theme (from DEADFALL)
06) The More Things Change
07) Try (from OHMSS)
08) Who Will Buy My Yesterdays?
09) You Only Live Twice

Selections 2, 3, 9 - from JOHN BARRY CONDUCTS HIS GREATEST MOVIE HITS LP
Selections 1,4-8 - from READY WHEN YOU ARE, J.B. LP

THE GIRL is a theme from a British shampoo commercial that ran in the mid 60's, while Dutchman is from the score of Anthony Harvey's film of LeRoi Jones' play.

Go get it.
