Summer And Smoke - FEAST OF BERNSTEIN: Dish #2

The second dish for your enjoyment is Bernstein's score for the film of Tennessee Williams' play SUMMER AND SMOKE, made in 1961. The film isn't quite as hot and bothered as BABY DOLL, but there's plenty of heat from sublimated desires onscreen - definitely worth a look if you can find a copy on tape (no DVD as of yet, sadly).

Bernstein was pretty prolific by this time in his career and Summer and Smoke tends to get overlooked, in lieu of some of his other work in this period - TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, for instance, which came 2 years later. He did get Oscar nominations for both scores, and lost out both times.
