Spring into some Contemporary Classical music

Another area of interest - contemporary classical music. Not that far removed from soundtracks, which is contemporary instrumental works, NOT for the concert stage - the following are intended for the concert stage.

Elliot Goldenthal has a foot in both worlds, though he's probably more for his film scoring - he has an impressive concert cv - OTHELLO is his ballet, staged in San Francisco and also available on DVD.

Aaron Copland is widely known - but these early works for ballet weren't, until their recording in the mid 1990's.

Metropolis Symphony is inspired by the Superman comics... composer Daugherty is known for works about pop culture. He's most known for his opera, JACKIE O, which premiered in the late 90's.

Daugherty's Metropolis Symphony is really intriguing. I never would have run across this. Many thanks.
