Hugo Friedhofer - THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES & ONE EYED JACKS

Here's a couple for the true soundtrack enthusiasts... Hugo Friedhofer has long been underrated, and underrepresented on recordings, something that has recently started to be rectified. His name may not be familiar, but his work certainly is.

TBYOL has been called the best film score of the 2oth Century... it's certainly the one that Friedhofer will be remembered for. The movie may not be well known now, although with its subject of veterans returning home from war, it's certainly still relevant and timely.

This was a re-recording of the score released by Entr'acte Records in the late 70's. It also included a booklet with notes about the film, score, and Friedhofer, scans of which are included.

One Eyed Jacks was Marlon Brando's directorial debut (after Stanley Kubrick was briefly involved with the production, but moved on to other things). Friedhofer provides a lush and memorable score. If I had seen the film, I'd say more about it.
